Hey! I’m really glad you’re here. I wanted to talk today about finding a hobby.
Luckily for me, finding my multitude of hobbies has been fairly easy. My sister had an interest in learning to knit from our great-grandmother when we were kids, so obviously I got wrangled into the lessons as well and the rest is history.
The best part of picking up a hobby are all of the benefits to your mental and physical well being.

Stress Relief
Hobbies provide a healthy outlet to unwind and relax. Whether it’s reading, painting, or playing an instrument, engaging in a hobby can help reduce stress levels by allowing you to disconnect from the demands of everyday life.
Increase Creativity
Hobbies can spark creativity and encourage you to think outside the box. For example, if you enjoy photography, you may develop an eye for detail and learn how to capture unique perspectives.
Creativity begets creativity. I’m so grateful to have encountered my “beginning” hobby of knitting, as it’s opened up doors to many other crafts I’ve picked up in the fiber arts industry. Knitting even led me to my chosen career field of interior design.
Boost Your Confidence
When you excel at a hobby, it can boost your self-esteem and give you a sense of accomplishment. This, in turn, can lead to increased confidence and a positive outlook on life. There is nothing better than wearing a new piece of clothing, using a new mug you’ve thrown, or hanging your latest cross stitch piece in your home to instill a bit of pride in your own work! Especially when a friend or family member notices and is in awe that you made that!
Build Connection
Participating in a hobby can connect you with others who share similar interests. This can lead to new friendships, networking opportunities, and a sense of community. That’s exactly why I started this blog, to find more of my people. Depending on the hobby you end up exploring, you’ll likely find others in your circle or surrounding area to connect with via knit nights, running groups, baking classes, or anything else for that matter!
Improved Mental Health
Studies have shown that engaging in a hobby can improve mental health by reducing symptoms of anxiety and depression. Hobbies provide a sense of purpose and can contribute to overall happiness and well-being.
