Finished Object: Misurina Knitted Crop Top

31.08.22 | Katy | No Comments

Every body is a crop top body. The opinion that I see many knitters have is that they absolutely hate the crop top trend. Don’t get me wrong, I totally get it. But, there is a fine line between understanding your body shape and feeling self-conscious! I used to think this way too, but now that I’ve added sewing to my crafting toolkit, I love the idea of being able to wear as many layers as possible to show off my makes.

Crop tops are perfect for wearing over dresses, tunics, regular length tops, anything flowy really with some positive ease. And if you have a bit more confidence than I, any high waist pants! I’m so glad I bit the bullet, didn’t add any length, and created my first of hopefully many crop tops for my closet. Here are some of my project details.

Knitting Pattern

MISURINA BY CAITLIN HUNTER

This sweater is a lightweight crop top with some gorgeous cables, colorwork, and a super simple lace pattern to boot! There are a few mods you can easily make to the design including length, and adding sleeves. Also, Caitlin gives you two options for the body design, either the eyelets (as I knit) or purl bumps. I love the eyelets to give a little pop of whatever color I’m wearing underneath!

I, unfortunately, didn’t keep note of what size I knit, but looking at the finished measurements on the pattern I either knit a size 4 or 5. And I didn’t include any modifications! I’m pretty sure I even knit the body to pattern instead of measurements. If I could go back, I would likely trim about an inch off of my total body length (not mine… the top’s.) I’d just rather it hit at my natural waistline instead of the smidge past that it is currently. Regardless, this top has gotten an immense amount of wear!

Materials

The yarn I used was dyed by McMullin Fiber Co., and it was part of their Canyon Collection. You can find the mini skein set for the whole collection here. I’m obsessed over this collection and wish I had so so much more of it! I do have a set of the mini’s… any ideas you have for a set like this please drop them in the comments! The yarn was dreamy work with. Plus the colors are fucking stunning. I was a little worried about the variegation of my main color (Kingfisher), but I think it still turned out beautifully. The eyelets can be hard to read, but once it’s over another piece of clothing it sort of fades that fear away.

So my simple call to action for this post is to knit the damn crop tops!! I’d be hard-pressed to find someone I don’t think this would look good on. You really just need to have a bit of understanding of how clothes lay on your body and find the right under pieces and you’ll have a stunning wardrobe staple on your hands.

A few recent makes and finishes. 👀🔥 1 & 2. A few recent makes and finishes. 👀🔥

1 & 2. The #parasoldress in this beautiful linen, the oldest fabric in my stash.
3. My second #deschain in a neutral I’ve been craving for years. In #berrocoyarn Modern Cotton.
4. My home office/craft room refresh. Pulled the carpet, laid peel & stick tiles, color drenched the walls & ceiling, and upgraded my craft supply storage solution. I’m OB 👏 SESSED 👏! There’s still a little more to do like swap out the ceiling fan, overall clean up and organize/purge my crap, and to finish hanging my cross stitching, art, and curtains, but it’s been so fun to work and craft in here already I can’t get over it.
